ASSIGNMENT M4 KB 3: STUDENTS’ LEARNING STYLE
Ibu
Wati asked her students to record and study natural phenomena such as air
temperature, hot and cold weather, rain, rainbow, the occurrence of land wind
and sea breeze, volcanic eruptions and various natural phenomena that occur
around them both individually and in groups. To train the learner's
independence and create active, effective, and fun learning, the learning
activities undertaken by the learner in the form of direct observation,
interview the expert, read the lithography and prove or try it out on their
own.
From the above activities, what
multiple intelligences is being developed by Ibu Wati?
The learning objective in this situation is the students are able
to record and understand various natural phenomena that occur around them. The
students are given individual and group project about the natural phenomena.
Ibu Wati, as the teacher make some learning activities in the
learning process such as direct observation, interview the expert, read the
some books or other sources related to the topic, and make experiments to try
or to prove their findings.
From the learning activities, Ibu Wati is developing some multiple
intelligences. They are Naturalistic Intelligence, Spatial Visual
Intelligence, Linguistic Intelligence, and Kinesthetic Intelligence. The
reasons are as follows :
a. Naturalistic Intelligence
Ibu Wati is developing
naturalist intelligence for her students in the learning process. She asks her
students to recognize some phenomena in the natural surroundings. Gardner in
his theory states the core of naturalist intelligence is the human ability to
recognize plants, animals, and other parts of the natural environment, like
clouds, rocks, mountains and other natural phenomena.
b. Spatial-Visual Intelligence
When the students make
direct observation, spatial-visual intelligence is being developed because the
students will perceive and transform the world they see, such as the colors,
lines, shapes, spaces & relationships that occur. The students learn by
seeing, observing, and recognizing them with color, details and they can also
see things or objects with a new perspective.
c. Linguistic Intelligence
Linguistic intelligence
is also being developed in the learning activities when the students try to
find out information from many sources by reading books or other literatures.
Students’ linguistics intelligence is also developed when they interview the expert
about the related topic. For example, students can interview geologist to
acquire information about the volcano eruption. They improve their
communicative skills in this activity.
d. Kinesthetic Intelligence
In doing experiments,
kinesthetic intelligence can be developed too. It can be seen from the activity
when students engage directly using physical activity by demonstrating how the
volcano erupts in the laboratory.
